Name Change After Marriage

I found this article on CNN interesting today, even though it's a little combative. I struggled with the decision on whether to take Darren's last name after we got married, too. It's not conventional in Vietnamese culture and I didn't want to hurt my parents' feelings. On the other hand, most of my female friends who got married did make the change. In the end, I had to ask myself two things: was it fair for me to have to make the sacrifice (and Darren not to), and was there a good reason to do it? My honest answer was: no. So I kept my last name. But, to each his own...it's your identity and no one else's.
